Video Games: They Way We Where

video games have been around for more years than most people know. Most people today can remember the Pac-man, Pac-Woman era. In reality video games have been in our daily lives for far longer than that. In fact one of the first video games on record goes back to 1947, where the first ever patent was filed in january of that year and that patent was issued in December 1948. Little did we know that this would come to be one of the hottest commodities to hit the American and International markets. One of the earliest video games was created by the same man who developed the atomic bomb.

In the 50s and 60s a video was being patented to run on computers. This became a reality, the problem was that little was known about computers and they were so expensive that few people had them, and this program was run on a platform called oscilloscopes, which was a piece of electronic equipment that could show two dimensional graphs. These were located at colleges and universities.

The 70s brought about new developments in the video industry. In 1972 a patent was granted for the release of a home video console. In was large and bulky, but it satisfied the video game demands of the gaming public. Later, in the 70s and early 80s, along came the development and release of Atari. This lasted for only a few short years, when the video market took a big dive. The reason for this was that there were so many entities producing these video games (most of which were the same game) that the market became flooded. The industry had really gone stale, because how many versions of the same video game can there be. One just seemed to be an updated version of the other. The public became bored with this and needed something fresh and new.

In 1989 the market once again had a new video game gadget, nintendo game Boy. This was new and exciting and the games were different, challenging and, best of all, you could take it with you wherever you went. There were several competitors who put their video games on the market by this time, but even today game Boy seems to be the best selling hand held video game and console.

The 1990s came alive with new and improved versions of consoles for video games. nintendo was overtaken by the newcomer, Sonys play station. The public went wild and now anyone who had the nintendo switched and had to have a Play station, with more bells and whistles than had been seen before.

Up until now all video games had been developed for computer type consoles, hand held consoles and computers. 2003 saw a new direction come to life with the development of video games on cellular phones, this came from none other that Nokia.

The video game industry has evolved into a multi-million dollar industry today. Almost every person in the world has at one time or another in their life either played a video game, whether it be on the old oscilloscopes, coin operated consoles, hand held consoles, home computers or the cell phone. It is an industry that is growing by leaps and bounds on a daily bases.

Why Conduct A Network Security Check?

These days a lot of organizations of different kinds have realized the benefit of having a network and, hence, are eagerly seeking to establish networks on their premises. Having a network on the premises facilitates faster data exchange across the organization. At the same time, there has also emerged a need to conduct network security checks in order to prevent unauthorized intrusion or data leakage. Losing data through such incidents may translate in to severe losses for the concerned organization.

In order to avoid the security threats posed by unsecured networks, a lot of security measures are required to be implemented. At the same time, we need to realize that having a security system in place will solve the problem once and for all. These security threats can raise their heads even when you have taken precautions like installing network security software or if you have an IT team dedicated to this particular task of keeping a watch on all activities within the network. In order to keep your network free of security threats and to run it in a smoother way, you need to integrate your network security by implementing all the latest tools.

But you may still be confused as to which is the right time to update the network security software and what are the other solutions? It is very difficult to know the best possible solution to the problem of network security. Threats tend to modify themselves with passage of time. What you can do is to develop some policies for your business in order to check security.

The data that is to be protected may be structured or unstructured. The data may include credit card and other such documents. Most of the data leakage is internal. Therefore, it becomes important to have integrated enforcement capabilities for all kind of communication, be it internal or external. All the security policies and rules should be put in place or designed keeping in mind what the user wants, the data type or the destination. All the variables should be related and it is then to be decided what information is to be sent by whom, where and how. All of these arrangements should be updated automatically with each and every change. These policies should be made considering organization's requirements.

You should take care that all the security software that you are implementing should be easy to handle and use. The access control policies should be clearly defined and should be able to integrate with existing processes. A good network security solution should be able to report properly, should be able to monitor all the activities inside the network and should be able to prevent it against any security threats. It can be bolstered by a regularly conducted network security checks.

Safe Exercises to do While Pregnant

Walking- Walking is a wonderful exercise that you can do virtually everywhere. Be sure you get comfortable walking shoes and that you use good posture to keep your back straight. Begin with a 5-10 minute warm-up and then stretch and continue with your walk. Remember to stretch afterwards to reduce soreness. Try to walk for at least 30 min. a day, 3 to 5 days per week.

Swimming- Swimming can be one of the most relaxing exercises for pregnant women. Your risk of injury is very low as well. Swimming takes pressure off your joints with that weightless feeling of being in the pool. You get a good cardio workout while swimming that uses your large muscles. There's also a reduced chance of injury while swimming, still, be careful when walking around the pool to avoid slipping. Some things you can do while in the water are water aerobics, deep-water running and swimming. You can join a water aerobics class or simply swim twenty minutes a day for 3 to 6 days a week. Don't forget to avoid hot tubs and saunas since they can raise your body temperature to high levels that may injure your baby.

Running and jogging- If you have been running or jogging before becoming pregnant, you can safely continue to do so. You will want to use common sense. If you begin to feel tired, slow down. Don't overexert yourself. As you get farther along in your pregnancy, you ought to cut back a little. If you have complications, chances are your caregiver will ask you to stop jogging for the remainder of your pregnancy. Always consult your practitioner first.

Low impact aerobics- Low impact aerobics is okay to remain doing while pregnant. You do not want to do jumps or high kicks. Alter the exercises if you feel like you need to. You can do this by going at half speed. Join a low impact aerobics class at your local gym or you can obtain a workout video and exercise at home. Many women are more motivated to exercise if they have joined a class.

Bicycling and spinning- Be careful when bicycling or spinning. You're more susceptible to falls now that your center of gravity is shifting. Steer clear of uneven terrain when you go biking. As your abdomen grows larger, you'll probably have a difficult time reaching the handlebars. You may also find the bicycle seat to become very uncomfortable in your third trimester. Don't overwork yourself. Take breaks as needed. If you participate in a spinning class, turn down the tension and slow it down if you feel tired.

pilates- pilates toughens your entire body(particularly your abdominals, pelvic muscles and back which may aid you in labor), teaches you body awareness and helps increase your flexibility. pilates is safe to do when pregnant. There are some gyms that have prenatal Pilates classes or you can just obtain prenatal Pilates videos to exercise at home. You can take pilates classes, just remember to stay away from movements that compress your neck.

yoga- The focus of yoga is techniques to help you relax and breath. These techniques could help you breath correctly as you experience through labor pains. You can participate in yoga classes throughout your whole pregnancy. However, you will want to avoid poses that involve lying flat on your back or inverted poses. Just like pilates, your local gym may have prenatal yoga classes or you can find prenatal yoga workout videos to workout at home. Most gyms will have regular yoga classes, which are safe for you to attend.

The Power of Images and Symbols

Ordinary Images Constantly Influence Our Lives When the woman claimed she didn't have "images" because she didn't "see pictures" when she closed her eyes, I was very pleased. That's because it's always fun to take a group of imagery workshop participants through an animal exercise in which I ask everyone to close their eyes and imagine that a baby animal is right outside the room. Then when I suggest that the door opens and the animal enters, the smiles begin. Every single person, even those who don't "visualize" things in their inner landscape, have a great time.

After several minutes, when they open their eyes and share what happened, it's amazing to discover how many animals have been invited into that room. From common kittens and puppies to elephants, lion cubs and eagles, there's not a single person who doesn't know the color and size of the animal that has crept, crawled, jumped, flown, or slithered into his or her imagination.

But how could the woman who doesn't "see" pictures know what her animal looked like? Well, it's because we have five different senses. Every time she played with a childhood pet or stared with fascination at giraffes in the zoo, her brain (this complex and amazing mechanism that makes us the most evolved being on the earth) was busy absorbing not only sights of the animals, but the sounds, smells, and touch as well. Even taste could have been incorporated into animal memories if, for example, she had a pet rabbit and bit off a piece of carrot before feeding the rabbit. Therefore, although the majority of people tend to have visual memories and images, she is as capable of "knowing" about animals as the next person. We all have a huge rolodex of images from which to draw when we encounter a new dog whose degree of friendliness we have to determine quickly.

Obviously, however, our animal memories are only a tiny fraction of all our images. Our senses have laid down thousands and thousands of images that have been stored during other experiences - images that have become the building blocks of our personalities, perspectives and coping styles. Even images buried so deeply that we are not aware of their existence create the lubrication of change and the glue of habit.

In fact, every single thought contains an "image," though we may not label it as an "image." Even complex concepts like courage, generosity, love and peace all have images associated with them. When we laugh at a joke, it is because jokes embody images. When we take part in a political discussion, images influence our convictions. The truth is that we cannot not image -- or surely we would never find our car in a parking lot, remember the face of an old friend or understand a novel.

Unfortunately, much of the time old, unconscious images encourage old patterns of thought . . . leading to old behaviors . . . and giving us old results. Even when we realize we must respond differently to a new challenge, the images stored in our minds become the blueprints we draw upon. If our images are basically positive and self-affirming, our new choices will add to our self-confidence and sense of well-being. If our images are negative and self-defeating, our decisions are likely to lead to further self-defeating behaviors that are harmful to our bodies, minds and spirits

Becoming Aware of Our Images Fortunately, there is a way to change our images, as more and more people (both the general public and the scientific community) are learning. In the past ten to twenty years, the ancient techniques of "imagery" and "meditation" have been shown to be highly beneficial physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. For example, patients are increasingly taught to use imagery as an adjunct to medical treatment to help reduce pain and enhance the body's natural healing mechanisms.

Further, "guided imagery" scripts or exercises can reinforce the life-affirming images of which you already are aware. These techniques can also help you create new images that can lead to new patterns of thought, new behaviors and new results.

Incidentally, other related techniques, such as hypnosis, biofeedback and yoga, are also becoming popular. Perhaps you've been thinking of trying one of them, but can't decide which one is best. What is the difference between them? The short answer is "nothing important." All of these methods are:

  • Used by a growing number of people to reduce stress, create optimal health and enhance a sense of well-being.
  • Positively affect the autonomic nervous system.
  • Involve a focused mind and an altered state of consciousness or "self-forgetfulness", similar to the awareness of being "in the flow" or in the zone that artists and athletes sometimes describe.
A longer answer about their differences centers around the purpose for which they are being used. relaxation, meditation and yoga have no specific "goal" other than achieving a sense of physical, psychological and spiritual well-being. Self-hypnosis and guided imagery tend to be goal oriented, such as changing a habit, controlling pain, or discovering some hidden aspect of the psyche. Bio-feedback is used to teach people how to relax or achieve a certain state of mind.

If you experiment with several of these techniques, you will most probably find one or two that seem to work best for your needs. Out of any of them can come images that can change your life.

Both Common and Simple Symbols Can Have Powerful effects While images may represent our experiences much like a shadow represents the object that casts the shadow, symbols represent ideas. For example, consider the universally shared symbol of wisdom, the owl -- never mind that owls have very low bird brain power! Advertisements use any of thousands of symbols to remind us of a quality or experience connected with the product being sold, from flags that equate patriotism with purchase of a U.S.-made car to happy crews on sailboats that imply freedom of spirit.

Other symbols are part of affirmations and metaphors that catch our attention because they resonate with our experience. One of my favorite comes from a poster that simply had a turtle with the words, "Behold the turtle. He only makes progress when he sticks his neck out."

Some Images Can become Potent Symbols While there is power in universally shared symbols, there is perhaps greater power in those that grow out of personal experience. I can illustrate this with one of my own symbols.

For many years I had flying dreams. If I were outdoors when I left earth's gravity, I would float over the landscape and could look down on beautiful, dark green trees. Why these dreams no longer occur, I don't know and I miss them. But there was another kind of flying dream I'm glad I no longer have. In these I would be inside when I started flying and often there would be other people watching, and perhaps pursuing me, as I gracefully flew higher and higher in the building. Almost always I would want to leave, but would be prevented by a locked iron grid or bar over an exit door or skylight.

When I explored the meaning of this dream, I realized that I had given my right to freely make my own choices the right we all possess to others. First it was to my parents and teachers. Then it was to anyone I thought would judge me, which was just about everyone. How could I get past the locked doors and windows? easy. Own my own key! For several years, I hung a large old iron key over my desk to remind me that I had the power and right to make my own choices.

You, too, can learn to access your own internal store room of thousands and thousands of powerful images.
